Speaking of James Wan these days is talking about the name of terror in theaters. His films have far exceeded the average of what one expects, that is, meaningless scares and virgins running in terror before a killer of supernatural strength, to give some examples. The technique, the influence of classical cinema, added to the ability to invent a completely new and stylistic universe, but also mainstream , have given the director enough fame to surround himself with as many talents as himself.
After jumping to the fore with "conjuring (The Conjuring, 2013)" and his successive detachments, because he has a longer and more prolific career than the afdah movies of the Warren family ; Wan decides to create a whole universe through horror films and, as I said before, he surrounds himself with related directors, such as David F. Sandburg in the case of the movie "Annabelle" or, in this case, with Corin Hardy , who brought us in 2015 the wonderful "The Hallow" , a fairy tale of horror brought to the cruel present, playing with the local English folklore and the genre of "movies in the forest".
"The Nun" drinks influences from the period genre films of the 50s, 60s, and 70s, of which we could name the most influential producer Hammer Films would be, but also of exploitation in which reality is mixed with the fiction, as it is the case of the afadh film "The Demons (The Devils, 1971)" by Ken Russell, a film that talks about the case of the demonized nuns of Loudun that afflicted a village in France in the 17th century.
"The Nun" is another chapter, the darkest in the universe of "The Conjuration", and it is appreciated that both James Wan and his colleagues continue to bet on the cinematographic quality added to a story that increasingly widens to our delight.
